You'll hear new warnings about possible birth defects with long-term, high-dose fluconazole (Diflucan, etc).

But don't panic...this doesn't apply to the use of a single 150 mg dose of fluconazole for vaginal yeast infections.

The increased risk is seen in women taking 400 to 800 mg/day of fluconazole long-term during the first trimester for cryptococcal meningitis and other serious infections.
